The only successful private mediator I know is a retired judge. He's actually more experienced and legally competent than the lawyers he'd be replacing. I don't think a certificate-only mediator is going to attract many clients.

Have you been to law school, and do you have practical experience in employment law? If so, this might work for you. Otherwise, I can't see this being a significant income generator for someone so inexperienced. Sorry.

Sorry you feel that way. Although no offense, but I hope your rather vague & passive aggressive ''disappointment'' isn't representative of your mediation style!

No. If I didn't like the way my employer was treating me, I would act like an adult and mediate the situation myself. If the situation did not improve, I would leave.

Yes and yes, to answer both questions. Thanks for your feedback.

I take no offense to your comments, and I hope you take none from mine. I don't mind being more specific about why the advice you were given disappoints me, but that is probably a subject better suited to a different thread or a pm dialogue. Of course, my disappointment is probably of no concern to anyone here, and I did not want to de-rail this thread. Nevertheless, the advice you were given is not only bad advice but also potentially harmful if followed by other readers of your post. So I felt compelled to comment even if you (and perhaps others) took it as a vague & passive aggressive comment.

I much prefer at least knowing where folks stand, even if we may disagree. But it's pretty difficult to even ''negotiate'', when you're spending all your time just trying to figure out what they mean!

I probably would not. If it was something involving substantial amounts of wages...maybe.

In general though, if I thought things were so bad I wanted to hire a mediator..it would be best to leave.
