I'm on business travel right now, and someone (coworker) mentioned how he always made sure to tip the hotel maid. Got me thinking. Am I expected to tip the hotel maid? I'm not making a mess for them to clean up, I don't need anything extra for them, I throw all my trash into the garbage can each night. All they have to do is empty the trash can, make the bed, and clean the toilet. They'll probably change linens and towels once or twice while they are here but not every day.
Appreciate the feedback. I am tipping the restuarant servers.
I always do, and I never include it on my expense report-even though my corp would pay. On business trips, my costs go down already, as I am spending less eating out around my hometown, so even with this tip not reimbursed, I'm coming out ahead, and I'm rewarding someone for good service.

As long as they do a good job, yes, I tip them. I also pay it out of my pocket, and being cheap will leave $5/night on the nightstand when i check out.
Not sure this really has anything to do with work and employment. Anywho, I usually leave a few bucks for the maid. Just whatever I happen to have in my wallet. If I don't have anything, I don't leave it.
I always do (business or leisure). Albeit the amount will differ depending on how much the room was actually 'used'.
I also hear that if you do so, you should do it everyday (as opposed to the day you checkout). Your room may not be serviced by the same person for your entire stay.
