How many people here have been doing the same kind of work for most of their professional working lives, and are seriously contemplating a career change for 2014? Do you feel bored, and burned out to the point where you know you can't continue much longer doing whatever you're doing? I'm at that stage now, and looking for new realistic ideas. I'd love to hear your stories and thoughts as I suspect there are many people here in this forum who are experiencing the same situation. What are some of the new career changes you've thought about lately?
I am just beginning to consider doing something else. It's the "what" that I don't know.
I've been at my job (not the same exact job, but the same employer) for almost 35 years. I am eligible to retire, but I cannot afford to retire just yet. I'm 'only' 55, but then again, I am 55, so that will make it tougher to find something. I really just need to make the difference between the pension and the current salary and maybe a little more, so that leaves me open to some possibility.
I don't see myself doing some type of health care thing. I also don't have a college degree, because I was able to work my way up to my current position, which would now require a degree. That limits opportunities, too.
So, for 2014, I'm going to get more serious about the search I've already begun.
