So as a hiring manager and recruiter, I e-mailed people that are on a website specifically looking for new jobs and have their e-mail address and often their resume included visible for us recruiters only. So instead of e-mailing individually (which will take lots of time), I decided to send same e-mail with the job description and asked them to respond back if interested of the job position after reading the description and included between 20 - 35 different e-mails at the same time on the same e-mail, and obviously those e-mails are visible to others receiving it.

For the first time I got an e-mail back from a person saying: "PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM ALL CONTACT LISTS AND DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN. YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE CAN-SPAM ACT AND I AM REPORTING YOUR VIOLATION. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL MULTIPLE RECIPIENTS AT THE SAME TIME. YOU HAVE NOW SHARED MY EMAIL ADDRESS WITH ALL THESE OTHER PEOPLE."

I never got that before, and seriously if you have issue with receiving e-mail from recruiters, why post it visible? OK maybe he didn't want me to have his e-mail visible to some other candidates, but still.

What should I do? I got worried and scared. Don't want to tell my manager either

I had no idea of any of that, and now I will send individual e-mail which will take much longer time. I'm new to this job too so I am confused! Please help !!

I responded back to him and apologized and said that I had no idea of any of that, and never had any issues before. My contact information is on the e-mail as well, obviously they know it's not false advertisement!

Yeah, you screwed up.

Aren't you the same one criticizing job seekers and you're taking such a blatant shortcut?

Send emails to multiple recipients using the BCC line instead of the To or CC line. That way they are not shared.

Oh ok thanks! Can I include many people (e-mails) on BCC line without others being able to see it?

And people wonder why they can't get a job. It's because some of those that have jobs obviously don't know what they are doing and somehow managed to BS their way through since apparently intelligence is not at play.

Yes, bcc = blind carbon copy. Means no one will know who it was sent to.

Yes. That is the whole point.

Put your email address in the "To:" field, and the next 10, 100 or 1000 in the BCC field. Nobody will see any other recipient or be able to 'reply all'. But they will be able to respond to you.

I doubt that you have violated the can-spam act. After all, the people you contacted posted their email addresses for the purpose of being contacted. You did do a dumb thing by emailing everybody visibly, but in the end this is not a big deal.

Puh he scared the **** out of me! Next time I know though and will use BCC field

Those people posted their e-mail/contact information through a source website us recruiters/hiring managers pay to use and to find candidates. He got angry because I included his e-mail with bunch of others qualifying candidates. Big deal.... he's the only person saying that to me.

Or that managers do not explain to their new employees everything in detail
Training is very important especially entry-level positions.

BCC is commonplace and basic... there should be no need to train you in that.
