...I would be responsible for bus transportation of new residents and transporting residents to events. Not only do I not want to drive a bus (for which I don't need to have a CDL), but I don't want to be responsible for the safety of residents. I would also have to get them on-and-off the bus. Too much potential liability, even though I would be covered on my insurance and the living center's insurance. Your thoughts on this...

Our thoughts don't matter!
You don't want the additional duties, so you did not take the job.

Why are you asking for others' opinion on this decision when you just stated why you made your decision?

People sure are not confident in themselves these days, always needing assurance and guidance from others.

OP, I think you made a wise decision for yourself. Being uncomfortable with a facet of your job is no fun.

There is not much to think about, is there? If you don't want to do it, don't do it. Someone else wants the job and will take it.

I understand that a 19-year-old took the job...one that is "more adventurous" - their quote, not mine.

I really hope the driving responsibilities were listed in the ad. I hate going to an interview and finding out that I will have to drive to different locations. Not that its a big deal but why not at least mention travel in the posting? Makes no sense.

The job ad mentioned nothing about driving/providing transportation to residents or potential residents. I also would have had to clean up any pee and feces if this occurred in transit. Also, I would have had to utilize the wheelchair lift.

No, too much responsibility for a secretary. They should have a Transportation Director or even a CNA for this task.

I agree!

Sad that they did not give a complete list of duties.

Sounds like they're trying to condense job duties to save money. Sad.
