So I live in Dallas - relatively speak cheaper than a lot of big cities, but with an influx of companies the COL is increasing faster than most major cities. Anyways, that's a separate conversation besides the point...
My issue is I hate it when I talk to companies/recruiters and during negotiation they always seem to bring up something like "at least you don't live in our SF or NYC office where COL is so high compared to where you are"
I have plenty of friends that live in those major cities and pay a ****load of money for rent, but I can easily make my COL equal to theirs. Ok you pay $4k/month on rent? so what? I pay $5k/month on mortgage. Ok you don't have a car cause you live in the city? Well I have multiple cars and all the expenses that come with it. I can show many many many many examples where my COL is higher than pple living in SF/NYC/LA/Chicago/etc
Just sick and tired of companies/recruiters making comparisons
