I can't stand having to wear a Lanyard. Constant reminder of what a slave I am.
Anyhow, I have to wear a Lanyard with a bunch of access crap along with numerous badges attached to it because of what I do for a living.
Problems:
1) As I walk, you can hear me a mile away as the Lanyard and accessories slap my chest over and over again. I don't like making a racket as I go down the hall. Also a constant reminder of the slave that I am.
2) The Lanyard always somehow (no matter which way I turn the badge) ends up facing the wrong way resulting in challenges when I am in "limited access" areas.
At my current company and my previous employer, lanyards are "required". From day 1 at each employer I haven't worn it (I keep my badge in my wallet and just wave my wallet near the sensor when I need to get through a door) and nobody has said anything to me.
I understand that this may not be possible in many places, but it works more often than you might think.
I have a badge holder with a clip. Since we have to wear our badge waist level or higher, I clip it to the side of my shirt. Some people clip to their pockets.
I can't stand having a lanyard banging against my chest either so I just wear my badge clipped on. I have no status so I just have one badge. You have numerous badges, you could just layer them down the front of your shirt like a row of medals. : )
How much of the stuff on the lanyard needs to be visible? I wear my name badge and door code on a retractable clip on my shirt. Everything else is on the lanyard which can be looped through a belt loop and stuffed in a pocket if the noise/motion start to bother me.
Me, too. I can't stand wearing things around my neck.
My wife got me a badge reel with a picture of Elvis on it.
