"A burger-flipping robot that doesn’t require a paycheck or benefits — and can grill 150 burgers per hour — is now a cook at CaliBurger.
It’s called ‘Flippy.’
The robot, or more specifically, a specialized industrial six-axis robotic arm bolted to the kitchen floor, works lunchtime shifts at the international burger chain’s Pasadena, Calif., location. It takes burger orders through a digital ticketing system, then flips the burger patties and removes them from the grill. It uses thermal and regular vision, as well as cameras, to detect when the raw meat is placed on the grill, then monitors each burger throughout its cooking process."
If your job can be defined by an algorithm it can be done by a robot.

The additional benefit of this robot is that if placed in a highly visible window people will flock there to see it in action, and buy a burger to see how it tastes.
News story I heard on the radio today said the owner openly admits that this robot was installed in this particular restaurant because the city the restaurant is located in recently passed a $15/hour living wage requirement.
Robots are not perfect though no matter how good you automate it.
You still need a real human to oil its wheels.
What if it needs reparing?
Cleaning?
Reprogramming?
Updating?
New parts?
Battery charge?
Maintaining these robots also cost money.
Oh you mean health benefits.
Yeah, and it won't be long before Flippy starts demanding a $15 hr., paid vacations and sick leave, and even unionization. Damn robots are getting smarter and smarter. Hell, they may even demand to be a "protected group."

the robot designed to flip flippy over and unscrew its access panel to pump in fresh oil, clean out its fuel filters, plug into its usb interface to dowload new firmware, grind down gears or belts that need repairing or replacing, and measure, charge or replace its battery on an automated scheduled maintenance cycle.
I stopped at a McD's yesterday and they had order stations where you make your order and pay by card. You then take your numbered receipt to the wait line, so the fast food cashier jobs are be automated out as well.

This was going to happen regardless of minimum wage. It's advancement.
It replaces a crappy paying job (in which the worker probably collects public assistance) with a higher skilled/wage job.
But if the robots take all our jobs, we will all be on public assistance.
