In that scenario only a few get rich. Then another tech advancement comes along and a few more get rich, then again, then again, until there's nothing left to advance and/or invent. How long that will take who knows, but probably won't happen in my lifetime.
The issue with tech advancement is what happens during the transition. No one has a plan for all the people who are going to lose jobs. Eventually they will all die off and sort itself out, but that transition time is going to be hell.
A good way to get rich is to have others work for you. So don't be the McDonalds employee. Be the one who owns the franchise. Given how saturated markets are, and how many ventures require a lot of capitol to get going, there absolutely needs to be something for the masses. They all can't be CEOs of companies, nor become engineers etc. And there's still only a finite amount of money available to the world.
I stopped at a McD's yesterday and they had order stations where you make your order and pay by card. You then take your numbered receipt to the wait line, so the fast food cashier jobs are be automated out as well.
Wendy's have rolled these out and honestly they are great to make sure you get the burger you want. How many times have you ordered a burger with no mayo or ketchup and guess what, your order don't include that you asked for it. I am torn on it because of this. What i do think is the burger flippers are a bit different.
"A burger-flipping robot that doesn’t require a paycheck or benefits — and can grill 150 burgers per hour — is now a cook at CaliBurger.
It’s called ‘Flippy.’
The robot, or more specifically, a specialized industrial six-axis robotic arm bolted to the kitchen floor, works lunchtime shifts at the international burger chain’s Pasadena, Calif., location. It takes burger orders through a digital ticketing system, then flips the burger patties and removes them from the grill. It uses thermal and regular vision, as well as cameras, to detect when the raw meat is placed on the grill, then monitors each burger throughout its cooking process."
If your job can be defined by an algorithm it can be done by a robot.
The message: Evolve to a higher level job or evaporate.
It's great for the business owner. No more dealing with unreliable employees who call out, no show, come in late, come in on drugs, want higher wages but still do all those aforementioned things.
