I assure you the situation for teachers in the Bay Area is far worse than Mississippi. You can buy houses in the area for the 100s and you have overall cheap everything. If you get a pension and healthcare what's to worry about?

In the Bay Area teachers make usually in the 70s and condos are around 600-700k for 2 bedrooms (more in some areas). Some in San Francisco are even homeless.

Overall 30-50k a year with acceptable health coverage a pension and summers off is pretty good for a state with the lowest cost of living in the USA. Most states where teachers start at over 50k are far more expensive.

There needs to have supply-demand change. When less teachers then the salary will be up. When more teachers then the salary will be down. Same things with other fields. Also teacher is a job where you dont expose to chemical or harmful stuffs, 3 month summer break, time is more flexible than 9-5 jobs, so it is desirable. Some of my friends work in spas and make around $6k per month, but their health has some problems due to chemical exposure. Would those low pay teachers want to trade?

Exactly. You know you are not going to get rich being a teacher. On the other hand:

* You have good job security.
* You have more vacation time than most other professionals
* You have good benefits.

In other words.....quit complaining.

So teachers work 36 weeks a year.

She claims she makes $35,490/year

So her actual 52 week "normal job" rate would be (52/36)*(35,490) = $51,263

Not bad for just out of college.

That's why many teachers teach summer school or take up summer employment.

Average Arizona teacher salary is $47,403 or near 70K in year terms.

I mean cmon. I could plow road and claim 35k a year...buuuuut...I only work part of the year, so
