Employees will get modest store discount instead for working shifts this holiday weekend.
Walmart will be operating at regular hours this Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but unlike retailers Target and Amazon, it won't be offering employees paid time and a half. In fact, as the Guardian reports, Walmart workers won't get any extra pay.
Terrible. When I used to work at an office supply store, I worked 2 black Friday's. We did get paid more, plus I think I sold more warranties the first year. We would get a small percentage of how ever warranties we sold.
Nothing really? How about for their time away from their family and the holidays? Well, like I said, I worked 2 black Friday's and I actually didn't mind: because we were getting paid more! These people just get some lousy discount. The company is getting stingy...

OK. And?
They're there willingly. They're free to quit if it doesn't work for them. Not seeing a point here...

Correct.
I have a relative who works for different large retailer, and in her case, and most, if f/t (per retail measurements), they get paid holiday pay on top of pay for working it.

They are getting paid for their time away from their families. I worked yesterday and had to be away from my family and I got paid. I don't see the issue here.
People should probably not enter an industry where it is common to have to work on the holidays if they are concerned with the idea. Every employer will handle it differently and it's perfectly fine to treat it as another normal working day... because that's what it is in that particular industry.
Businesses should close on holidays like they did in the old days.
Turns out that people want them to stay open. There's nothing wrong with that.
