Hello,

I'm an experienced Spanish teacher in VA who is looking for another position and would like any/all info on districts/schools in the following states primarily: MD, SC, NC, TN, other areas of VA than Tidewater but open to other states also. Willing to consider relocating out of state but would prefer to not if possible (tenured in VA). Have taught all levels of Spanish through AP and hold an MA as well. Have already been looking on state/district websites for info on vacancies but not seeing a lot (due to cutbacks/economy). Prefer to be in a district/school with high academic achievement, strong parent support, and strong disicpline... a high achieving district would probably be a good fit based on my previous experience (over 15 years) ...

Also willing to consider other employment possibilities outside of education where I can definitely use my language skills as part of the job (translation or interpretation, training, etc.) Would really like to get a position in the DC metro area with the gov't but have had NO luck with that and would appreciate replies from people who know how to make that work. Any suggestions or specific info on districts/places/companies to check into would be very helpful and appreciated, especially from people who have sucessfully transitioned out of the classroom into other areas using their skills from education. Thanks for your replies and suggestions - I need advice!

This is probably the last place to post for a job! I would go through the school districts in the towns/states you are targeting or a specific school employment website (google them).

Spanish language skills are ALWAYS in demand in the Northeast. You could probably get a job in this area (well, not VT, but in MA or in NY) pretty easily.

If you are thinking of getting out of teaching, you could try customer service at any organization. They always love bilingual people at call centers, bank customer service departments, and so on.

Profesora, have you joined any of the organizations for foreign language teachers? My wife belongs to ACTFL and a couple of organizations for German teachers. She finds them a great way to network and I know she gets job announcements via email. I'm not sure which organization(s) generate them. She landed a job that she plans on keeping! Best of luck in your search!
