What jobs have you found that have surprisingly high salaries?

for example, at Publix (a grocery store)

* $44,300 per year for Assistant Department Managers
* $64,600 per year for Department Managers
* $76,400 per year for Assistant Store Managers
* $110,700 per year for Store Managers

Why? That seems in line with any "Big Box" retail, which is essentially what a grocery store is.

Are you now planning to become a store manager? ;-)

imo, there are lots of well-paying jobs that i would never do. Why? Because I don't like them or they don't fit my interests or skills.

I would hate to be an IT programmer all day, although i took classes, just so i understood it.
Also, nursing, i would not like, and another good paying good job.
Or merchant marine...i would hate being stuck on a boat all day.

i really think you have to go with your interests and work from there. I think the problem for many people is finding out what they are interested in, that someone would be willing to pay them for!

yeah, but you have to deal with "valued customers" all day. I would hope I would be paid that much to deal with that.

You also work Supermarket hours so you are probably not working a typical 40 hour work week. More like 60+ and weekends. Depending on your situation it may not be worth it.

Starting pay for US Airways pilots: $21,000/year. That's kind of surprising.

Not really. They fly the small commuter planes and might only fly 12-15 hours a week to start. The pilots work on a bid system based on seniority.
