I have been unemployed since January, 2009 and have actively been searching for a new position for almost eight months. After over 20 years in a higher level, stress filled, managerial position with the same company, I do not want to apply for that type of job and everything that goes with it (yes, including salary) although I do want to stay within the field (accounting). My resume and cover letter stress my capabilities and accomplishments as they relate to the positions I have held. I know I cannot come out and say that I don't want the responsibility I formerly had, but I am not sure how to express that I would be more than comfortable in a lower level position (bookkeeper or fulll-charge bookkeeper). Do I somehow put this in my cover letter and if so, how? Do I wait for the miracle of an actual interview? If so, how do I express this without seeming like a slacker? I don't want to give too many clues upfront that suggest my age (62). Unless one sees my graduation dates, I easily pass for early 50's (good skin genes passed on from grandma and mom) which is still considered old in today's workplace!

Clean up your resume and do not list the items that you consider high stress. You can just list duties that you do want to do and gear your resume to the job you want, not the job you had.
