Australia's highest point is Mt Kusciuszko (though it's techincally called Mt Townsend), at just over 7000 ft and you can see quite a long way from the top. Though not into another country of course.
Kosciuszko and Townsend are two different mountains that are very close together. They actually switched names back in the 1800s when they realized that the explorer who named them, Pawel Strzelecki, got his measurements wrong and unintentially named the second highest peak Kosciuszko. I guess he was not really a details types of person.
The highest point in the lower 48 states as someone else already mentioned is Mt. Whitney in California at 14,505 feet (4,421 m). From there, you can see the lowest spot in the western hemisphere, Death Valley. You can see the very flat Central Valley. On a very clear day, I'm told you can see the Pacific Ocean.
The Volcán Barú (also Volcán de ChiriquÃ) is an active stratovolcano and the tallest mountain in Panama, at 3,475 meters (11,401 ft) high. It lies about 35 km off the border of Costa Rica.
Due to its height and the narrowness of the isthmus of Panama, it is possible to see both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea from Volcán Barú's peak on a clear day.
The highest point in Portugal is on the island of Pico in the Azores(2351 m) I have climbed it before the view is nice I'm not sure how far the view is but I can see five islands on a clear day from up there a lot of ocean sometimes there is a thick blanket of clouds below. The sunrises and sunsets are also exquisite. This is the view of it from my ancestral village.
As you've seen, when you have an American audience, you ask about their state, not the whole country. I live in Colorado, with 58 mountains over 14000 feet (4267 meters). Each has its own unique summit and views.
