'People work to live' is NOT true in Asia. Asia has the same work values as the U.S.
'Smiles and greetings are fake, artificial and contrived' for US - this REALLY depends on where in the U.S. I don't see it in NY, and some places those smiles and greetings are really legitimate.
'Human relationships feel artificial and superficial, mostly based on usefulness' in the US. Actually, that's international. Living in Asia, PLENTY of people befriend you just to practice English. In poorer countries, some people befriend you with the hope of getting money from you later.
Ah, I won't continue anymore. I think that many of them are somewhat true. But there are quite a few exceptions. Plus the world is a huge place, and the U.S. is a big place. So you can't really say that ALL of those things are true for EVERYWHERE in the U.S., anymore than you can say that ALL of those things are true for everywhere that is NOT the U.S.
Actually the list sounds more like someone is bitter about something.
I don't know about 'most other countries', but that column on the right is very close to real life in small-town Mediterranean Europe, though saying that a lot of younger people from those places leave/talk about leaving for more opportunities/excitement. London, and most of Britain is unfortunately more like the column on the left, though IMO not as bad.
As an American who has chosen to live abroad permanently, and who feels virtually no connection to the present-day U.S., I might have expected myself to tend to agree with some negative criticism of the U.S.; however, my reaction is that the comparison chart is beyond over-the-top! It almost reads like a bad attempt at a comedy monologue!
Just one of the things it ignores in its generalizations about non-American cultures - aside from the very important fact of their wide variation - is that large numbers of people, especially younger people around the world have been very heavily influenced by U.S. culture. Thus, you are going to find many, many non-Americans exhibiting the same characteristics as Americans....and what travels most quickly and most easily, unfortunately, is what appeals to the weakest parts of human character.
It isn't just cheap goods that have a world market.
That chart is so full of crap. Nothing but stereotypes and generalizations. It looks like one of those Facebook quizzes you take on what country is best for you. Totally unscientific and without merit....
Sigh, I lived in the country pictured on that very first website for 10+ years.
It's like I would describe US based only on TV shows like 90210 or Entourage... And then create website attracting people to move to US to get hot chicks and drive on Sunset Boulevard...
While it could be true, in most of cases it's more like "not really" :)
If this is about dating, I recommend relationships forum, they will explain to you better what to improve.
But thanks for the link to the first website... we are laughing to tears with other guys from Europe now... priceless stuff :)))) EU
- Attractive girls can hold a normal intelligent conversation and are down to earth. Interacting with them feels natural. They have more interests.
- Quality attractive single women without emotional baggage or issues are common.
- Overweight women are rare. Height and weight proportionate is the norm. So you can take it for granted that the females you meet will be too.
- Women respect and need men. They love to provide support and tenderness to their man.
etc. etc. etc. Really? He is talking about Japan in 1930 maybe :)
A lot of it has to do with 'economic leverage' than anything. I mean, when it comes to Europeans and/or North Americans who go to poor countries looking for 'dates'. The sky is the limit for 'wining and dining', etc.
Where's the over-the-top criticism of American men? That chart makes no sense at all.
