I agree, but I think it means that these cities have better track the cultural and historical trail. Well as a center of cultural life

Barcelona has a greater reputation here than Madrid. I think most people are unaware of Madrid besides the fact that it is the capital of Spain.

What about the bullfights? Madrid is famous for its architecture and is the economic center of Spain. A lot of artistic heritage and history.

I'm just speaking from experience - Barcelona has more of a reputation than Madrid.

I understand you, but for the majority. As well as Moscow and St. - Petersburg to foreigners also think is true. But if you want to trace the history of Russian culture and arhiteaktury, it is more of a gold ring of Russia (Sergiev Posad Pereslavl, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal and Vladimir) What few people know of the aliens. Although it can be attributed, and Alexandrov, Bogolyubovo, Gorokhovets, Gus-Crystal, Kalyazin, Kideksha, Moscow, Moore, Mishkin, Palekh, Ples, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich, Yuriev-Polsky, Shuya, etc.) but is controversial and divisive.

I would say Sevilla and San Sebastian, Bilbao in recent years also.

The influence of Madrid and Barcelona is more economic and political, and as big cities they have more monuments, museums and theaters, but in terms of cultural influence, Sevilla and San Sebastian.

Between Madrid and Barcelona, depends, for spaniards Madrid, for the rest of the world Barcelona.

Of course not, but if I have to choose only one as the capital, I would choose Sevilla or San Sebastian over Madrid.
