No internet in North London? No TV, no gaming consoles, no Hollywood or Hollywood-styled movies, no car-centric urban layouts, no large corporatons over mom n pops, etc. etc.
Many say globalization IS Americanization.
I've spent time in London, trust me, it would be a much more intriguing and memorable place without all its Americanization. And of all countries to deny its Americanization, England??
Bit of a strawman there Back to NE, I never said those things didn't exist in London. Not that I think the internet or TV is uniquely American though and I associate gaming as much with Japan (used to spend a fortune importing consoles before they hit the UK!). Road layouts are not a uniquely US concept either! I'm talking about the influence of other cultures which is far more in evidence by just walking down the street. You couldn't not have stayed long or explored much if you didn't notice this. You want pics?
My local high street which is fairly typical, there's a McDonalds, Starbucks and Pizza Hut, but much more of this:
Kind of funny that at the same time that you have people criticizing Americans for being too sensitive about everything, you have a contingent who are up-in-arms like, "NOOOOOO!!!! THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS AMERICANIZATION!!" *takes a bite of a hamburger and sips a Coke, puts on American Eagle sweater over Levi's and then tops it off with a Lakers hat before leaving to go watch the latest Michael Bay film*

You're refusing to think in macro way. Someday you'll get it unless you stay stubborn.
eh?
I've posted pics to prove my point. What have you done exactly?
And to 415_thingy, if that's aimed at me, all I don't believe I've said anything of the sort but I do believe, as far as my own day-to-day experience goes (as I've illustrated), any US cultural influence is dwarfed by others.

All this agrument over who invented something, then who changed it or who adopted it or popularized it or marketed it. The world, as it exists today, is the culmination of centuries of people from everywhere inventing things, then changing them or adopting them or popularized them or marketing them. To argue about who gets "credit" is absurd. Who cares.

Says somebody who no doubt uses the telephone, drives to work and tries to make a point in English - incidently if you think the world has more interest in Lakers than it does in Manchester United then it explains a lot! Oh and Hamburgers and jeans are NOT American!

Britain played a huge part of the creation of the internet, ps3, Nintendo wiis are Japanese, the Uk, France, Australia etc make amazing movies, large corporations were in existence in Britain before the US,
I've noticed that most of your posts are cheerleading and off topic comments that add nothing to the discussion. What a surprise.
Then you should also have noticed, when it regards yourself, I and some others really dont' give a rat's patoot about whether you think we're cheerleading or not.....capiche?
As to adding something to discussions; well, you should take your own advice instead of simply wash, rinse, repeat.
Hey there; speaking of cheerleading; how's that joined at the hip with drknoble thingy working out for you. Transparency is certainly not a problem for you is it?
