Country accent is heavy with that singer and he slurs his words together a lot. Makes complete sense that he's hard to understand.

That's an old southern country accent that is used by very, very few Americans anymore, but is heavily exaggerated for effect in country music and slapstick comedy.

Here is how that actual singer (Will Hoge) talks in real life. Perfectly easy to understand every single word, which he speaks with good grammar and syntax. He never says "ain't".

That's also how people speak, who can afford a $45,000 pickup truck.

If you couldn't understand that guy (who was easy to understand), then you've missed a whole lot of good music, my friend.

And I don't agree that Americans are the most culturally ignorant people in the world. It's probably the opposite. Go to China or Japan and see how much they know about American or Western culture for instance. They don't know squat.

Be proud of who you are. America is the most powerful country in the world with the most influence and the biggest economy.
It has given the world a LOT of great things. Movies, music and various inventions that has changed the world. Actually, the US is probably our world's most important country, standing behind much of the progression of the human race. Stop being a self-hater.
The part I outlined in bold is ridiculously untrue except for maybe super rural parts of China, but I've been to some pretty out there parts of China and still saw rap battles with a fitted Yankees cap and repping Brooklyn artists. You are talking crazy jive.

As for the topic at hand: this lady, meh, right? How about Yelle? At least that's funny sometimes.

I didn't mean that they don't know anything. Of course they do.
However, show me one Chinese who can tell me about Socrates, Friedrich Nietzsche, the Renaissance or even The Beatles! None. They have no clue about that stuff.

I lived in China for about 6 months and met and hung out with lots of Chinese. Not one of them knew who The Beatles were.

And yeah they might have seen a rap video with Lil Wayne once or twice but if that's "culture"...I couldn't really say.

And OK, they know some of what's going on in America. Do they know about Germany? About France? Do they know about the Gladiators in Rome? The Vikings in Scandinavia?
Do they have any idea of what kind of people live in Australia? Do they even know that Australia exists? I highly doubt it.

Lata Mangeshkar - Jo Wada Kiya (Live Performance) - YouTube

Faye Wong is a huge star in China, both as a singer and film actress:

Faye wong - YouTube

And Mbelia Bel in Africa

Boya ye - YouTube
Do any of these singers perform regularly in English? I can't get YouTube at work to check these links myself. If they do not, it really isn't surprising that they wouldn't be popular in North America for obvious reasons.

Good lord. I'm not sure about "Americans" in general, but people who make blanket statements about entire nations of people like this certainly fall into directly into the "ignorant" and "hypocrite" categories themselves.

I think the answer is the language they are performing in, isn't it? Artists from the Anglosphere have no trouble coming into the US and becoming big stars, Canada, the UK, Australians, even some New Zealanders. But I think the bottom line is being an English speaking artist.

As for Le Ch'tis, is that what inspired that reality show on French TV? When I was over there with friends, we watched some French TV and man if you thought American TV was dumb you haven't seen the French version. Imagine like Jersey Shore people but French so there was a language barrier, and then I guess they had to do jobs or something but some of them couldn't speak English so they had to have the friend there to translate. My friends were like umm this is crap, we can find something better, but we watched it anyway, lol.
