Okay and this is based off thin air? I agree NYC is dirtier but its not a dump, NYC is defiantly not overrated, so many thing to do between the famous museums, Times Square, Empire State Building, Coney Island, Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, Little Italy, Korean town, Russian/Ukrainian village, Soho, Broadway Plays, Central Park, Beaches, 9/11, Yankee stadium, Wall Street Bull, West Village, Rockafella Center, and of course the famous dance clubs home to Hip Hop, Soul, and Disco

I guess it's all a matter of opinion. But again, as you haven't even visited the city, I don't see how you can just write it off like that. I'm guessing you never been to Paris either, so you can't even make a proper comparison between Paris and NYC.

I'm a bit fed up with everyone downplaying London its a great city NYC is great but yeah it's dirty and dingy in places and not just the inner city area.

Rio, by far. And, for my surprise, when travelling abroad, I noted that Salvador is a candidate to the second place.

That is defiantly my dream to visit Brazil, I am a little worried about crime when I go there though, I mean I live in the USA so I am used to staying away from dangerous areas, but brazil Murder rate is nuts!

I will tell you: the devil is not so ugly like it's depicted. Violence happens in slums and poor areas located far away of the touristic centres. If you don't visit these areas, and I really don't know a good reason for visiting these places, it's unlikely to suffer violence. In addition, the countryside of São Paulo State and much of the southern and western states have a very high standard of living. Many cities, including some large cities such as Ribeirão Preto, Curitiba or Florianópolis, could be easily compared to cities in USA.

I only dream of going to these locations for extended periods of time. I don't care for the touristy aspects. I would MUCH rather be able to dig around, and get into the history of these places. NYC facinates me after reading the ForgottenNY blog. I need time. I just want to dig around. That's it. lol

London and Paris are pretty much on the same level of interest, but NYC has been torn down and built over so many times in such a short span of time, it lures me to it.

So, in the poll, I pick NY. But it is only by a slim margin. London would without doubt be next.

I do understand your frustration. Everyone raves about NYC and I think people tend to overlook other cities without giving them a chance or the benefit of a doubt. It all depends on what you want though - the tall buildings, the grime and grit of New York is appealing to a lot of people, but not to me, at all. In my opinion, the amount of highrises in New York is ridiculously excessive. That is not what I want from a city.

Nobody is downplaying London. I live like an hour away from the city and I'm always taking day trips there. I think that London is architectually more beautiful than New York. I just don't believe that NYC is a complete dump, its has some architectural gems.

Lille is a gorgeus place, very charming. Not sure if it counts as Paris though.

Everybody is answering this question differently. Do you mean out of the three poll options?Regardless, Paris for sure. It's like the WOW SO ROMANTIC place that people always want to go to.
