Sto. Domingo is a great city but its not as nearly as influential or connected to the rest of Latin America as Havana is. There are peace negotiations going on in Havana right now between the Colombian government and the armed insurgency from Colombia.

You might say Havana is only important of influential to leftist. Well, what Latin country doesn't have leftist groups? Most do, and many were inspired by the Cuban revolution in some cases recieved asistance and direction straight from Havana. When Latin American politics pop up in a conversation, Sto Domingo is rarely mentioned.

Basically, yes.

When I go to Miami, I don't speak a word of English because most people don't know it.

Little Havana is simply a neighborhood in Miami though.

Have you ever been to Mexico City? It has immigrants from all over Latin America, and quite a few Spaniards live there as well.

Probably the largest group is Argentineans, there is a freaking Rinconcito Argentino restaurant every couple of blocks. Cubans, Colombians, Venezuelans, and Brazilians live there too.

I was just there a few months ago and the owner of the B&B that I stayed at was French.

Coincidentally I recently listed the most important city in Latin America, but exclude all the Brazilian cities and add Madrid above Mexico City. (//www.city-data.com/forum/ameri...n-america.html)
