Are there any Big World Cities (outside of the U.S.) that have an overall slow-paced lifestyle? If so, what are their names and respective countries.

Hello. I would have to say Quito, Ecuador would fit that description. The city has about 2 million people, very cultural but very laid back. It is also a very beautiful city in a very beautiful country.

I have to agree with that exclamation point.

My impression of Barcelona was that it was a very large, on-the-go city. On the other hand, people there do seem to be able to sit down, have a coffee and really relax before they head off again. Whereas, New Yorkers, for example, always seem to be keyed up even when they take a break.

Lisbon, Portual might fit the criteria. It has a population of a million or thereabouts...it has a lively night life and it has venues where international talent regularly appears.

I go up to Lisbon about three times a year, and as someone who lived in Manhattan for most of his life, I find the tempo of the city far more relaxed and agreeable....though one would not know that from the vehicular traffic, however.

People don't do a lot of running, except to cross the street. Life seems to largely be conducted at the velocity of a stroll. The level of service is equally casual, which is not something that bugs me, but I see visiting Americans sometimes ready to jump out of their skins they get so keyed up about it. If service is somewhat lackadaisical, it is also usually courteous and helpful. There are small sidewalk cafes tucked everywhere, and they always seem well populated during work hours.

I thoroughly enjoy it because it has a city feel and is attractive, but at the same time seems lacking in that tension that I found in most American cities.

I'd say London. Charming, old fashioned city, nothing like fast paced New York. You can go to London and feel like you're in a little quaint old village and the people are positively charming.
