All the tier 1 Chinese cities. $$$ is the only thing that opens doors in China.
I agree. The Arab States and large Russian cities too.
Europeans and Americans have been wealthy or relatively wealthy for so long, that we don't have to show off. But Chinese and Russians have been poor for so long, so they just have to show they're in the money and have been succesful. And especially in China you really do get respect by it. It's a bit same as with old rich and new rich in the West. Usually the old rich take their wealth with grace, while new rich flash off and being douches. Very broadly speaking naturally. In Russia there's not really a big notion of saving up, probably due to historical reasons. If you have money now, you have to spend it now. If you're left with money after a holiday, the holiday has been a disappointment.
Went to some of the cities in Europe last month like Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Venice and Florence. Surprisely, majority of the locals there don't carry designer goods. You don't see streets with full of people that are carrying bags from LV, Hermes, Chanel, Celine, Balenciaga and etc. Than which cities in the world are the most materialistic then?
Probably the Arab cities that are trying too hard. Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, and of course a few American cities, Los Angeles, San Diego, sections of Miami and NYC. I'm surprised you didn't think Paris, the fashion capital of the world, wasn't materialistic.
