Kazakhstan is interesting because it's a mix of Islamic/Middle Eastern, Eastern European and Asian influences. From what I understand, the Kazakh people are Muslims though not necessarily very devout, look like Chinese/Mongolians/Koreans and many of them speak Russian as a second language and there's still a strong "Soviet" tie with the Motherland. After all a quarter of the country's population is ethnic Russian.
Which element do you feel is most dominant there and has anyone here actually been there before?
I've always just thought of Kazahkstan as "Central Asia". I voted ME because I felt it fit better than the other two, but it still feels incorrect to me, Kazahkstan is distinctly Central Asia.
Central Asia/Middle East together with all the other Stans, Western Siberia, Xinjiang, Tibet, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
West of the Stans = Western Asia/Near East
East of Western Siberia, Xinjiang, Tibet and India = Eastern Asia/Far East
The one person I knew from Kazakhstan looked like he could be Eastern-European/Russian and spoke English with what sounded like to me a Russian accent but googling "Kazakhstan people" shows people that mainly look Asian.
