Actually I think Myanmar is quite safe. Why do you guys think it is not?
BURMA has an insurgency going on since 1948, and has a terrible record of human rights. There's also an ongoing genocide against the Rohingya people. Until 2011 Burma was led by one of the most repressive dictatorships in the world.
The name of the country is MYANMAR now, not Burma, which was the name of the county during colonial times. Unless you want to call Zimbabwe Rhodesia , Namibia Southwest Africa the ROC Formosa or Sri Lanka Ceylon.

That doesn't concern tourists that much. I've heard of some experiences from other Taiwanese and they said it's safe for backpackers.
For example, China is also repressive, but as far as personal safety concerns it's alright. I mean if you disregard the murderous traffic.

Here in Belarus we also have a dictatorship and a problem with some human rights, still it's quite a safe place, unless you are an active opposition member.
I haven't been to Myanmar but heard mostly positive things regarding safety there (unlike Philippines or even Thailand)
SE Asia seems to be a rather safe place for a traveler overall. Maybe not exactly European standard but better than many other parts of the world.

Every Belarussian should be an active opposition member.
Too bad those Muslims are oppressed but it has nothing to do with the overall safety.
BTW I think North Korea is also quite safe for a traveler. Yes, they will try to follow every your step, but this is a different story.
When I saw NYC 10th I knew their was some BS. If we start the cut off at 100,000 in the top 1000 every city would be from 4 maybe 5 countries. Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, South Korea and Norway. Maybe Finland would have one and maybe a Canada, Australia, New Zealand and one American city may slip into the top 100. Besides those countries visited above I doubt any country would make the list. In Japan only Osaka has a murder rate over 2/100,000 people. Al most every city has a rate smaller than that. It also seems most of Japans murders are by people with mental problems, foreigners (usually) murdering other foreigners) and Yamaguchi Yakuza. At least that is what I here of over here. Now if we raise that to 1 million people in the metro area maybe more U.S cities can make it and a few large European cities but the list will even more be dominated by South Korea and Japan.
