But you don't have to vote for any party or candidate, only attend a polling station and get your name marked off the electoral roll. If that's too much to ask, how much does a democratic system of government really mean to you?

"Compulsory voting" keeps parties and candidates focussed on addressing the needs of the mainstream electorate, rather than pandering to their own narrow support base. Do you really want governments to be elected with support of 20 or 25% of the electorate?

4 Presidential races would be far more interesting than just 1!!!
I agree. We have so many problems in this country, because it is bigger than it should be.

Power should be turned back over to the states as founding fathers planned. I do not advocate for a breakup, but DC needs to be castrated. People who want a strong social safety network could move to high tax states with other like minded folks. Those who believe in individualism could move to states that encourage the rights of the individual.

I completely agree with you. Things don't work with a society as divided as this one is. The politicians and citizens of this country need to face reality. Things are broken and will get worse. DC and our messed up form of Govt,. needs o be fixed badly. Completely reinvented. If not then DC needs to hit the road. Return power to the the states, and citizens live accordingly as you described. Otherwise I am sure if a nuclear war doesnt kill us all. Then at some point during this century, the USA will not exist as it does in 2016. I think things are that bad, and enough people so fed up. That it's time for everyone to wake up. Just by our choices for President, and the unprofessional behavior of these candidates. That in itself should be a serious wakeup call as to how bad things are.

Abandoning religious rules and adopting secularism would be a good start.

Ban islam, introduce atheist/humanist class in schools, create more housing, reduce parking prices by 50%, have more 24/7 grocery stores/fast food restaurants, kick out people born abroad with a criminal record and bring back land border control.

Only the housing thing makes sense tbh. Don't most people bike in the Netherlands?

Why do you like 24/7 grocery stores and fast food restaurants? We have so many of those and I don't think it's a good thing. I mean yeah they are convenient but that's about it. The food at those places is pretty bland and that means really long work hours.

Many do but i don't think most, maybe in the larger cities of the Randstad (Amsterdam/Rotterdam/Den Haag/Utrecht) and university cities (Leiden/Delft/Wageningen) but outside of it you still see more cars.

Because i'm slightly underweight and many times i can't sleep at night and feel kinda hungry but since everything is closed before 12 you end up eating a boring selfmade sandwich which doesn't add that many calories. I know the food is not great at fast food restaurants but i just think its easier to keep franchises open at night than quality restaurants.
Really long work hours? I say more employment.

Though we don't have any restrictions on opening hours, the 24/7 performance is abysmal. Near me we have a couple of 24/7 fast food joints (Subway, McD's, Hesburger) and one 24/7 petrol station. That's it.
