In Aztec religion, Huitzilopochtli, also spelled Uitzilopochtli, was a god of war, a sun god, and the patron of the city of Tenochtitlan.

The mythology of different peoples is the most difficult topic for etymology.
It is very easy to make a mistake. If I had the opportunity to live in Mexico, I would answer your question. Now I can only speculate.

I will try to tell about quetzal. It is a bird.

Quote:
Its iridescent green tail feathers, symbols for spring plant growth, were venerated by the ancient Aztecs and Maya, who viewed the quetzal as the "god of the air" and as a symbol of goodness and light.
Quote:
The bird is of great relevance to Guatemalan culture, being a character in the widely popular legend of the local hero Tecún Umán, a prince and warrior of the Quiché (K'iche') Maya during the latter stages of the Spanish conquest of the region. This quetzal was his nahual (spirit guide). The Quiché repelled several attacks from the Spanish army, even though outmatched in weaponry (guns, armor and cavalry against spears and arrows).

Quetzal. Etymology.
The last two letters "al" in the name of the bird mean color of the bird.

Bashkir word "ал" (al) means scarlet, pink, rosy.

Other Turkic languages.
Azerbaijani «al» - scarlet, red, purple.
Turkish «al» - red, bright red.
Kazakh «алқызыл» (alқyzyl) - scarlet.
Хакасский «алай» (alay) - scarlet.
Yakut «аалай» (alay) - scarlet.
Gagauz «al» - scarlet.
Uzbek «алвон» (alvon) – scarlet, vermilion, crimson.
Chuvash «чалка» (chalka) - scarlet.

To be continued.

Mongolian languages.

Mongolian 1. «ал улаан» (al ulaan) – scarlet;
\Bashkir word "ал" (al) [scarlet] in the Mongolian language has lost its original meaning. It only serves to reinforce.\
2. «улаан» (ulaan) - red, scarlet, rosy.
Kalmyk «цусн улан» (tsusn ulan) - scarlet.
Buryat «ягаа улаан» (yagaa ulaan) - scarlet.

Tungusic languages.
Evenki «улан» (ulan) – red.

In the Mongolian word «улаан» (ulaan) [red, scarlet, rosy] pronunciation of the first letter has changed.
This Mongolian word is a variant (an option) of the Uzbek word «алвон» (alvon, alwon) – scarlet, vermilion, crimson.

How about French word «lune» [moon]?
Spanish, Italian, Latin – luna.
Portuguese – lua.
Romanian – lună.

What is the connection between "red, scarlet, rosy" and the Romance words for "moon"? The moon is not known for being red.

In ancient times people worshiped the moon as a god.

Does anybody want to object?

Serbo-Croatian (Slavic language) word «башка/bashka» [separately, in isolation] comes from the Bashkir word «башҡа» (bashсka) [other, apart, separately].

No surprise, here. The Tungusic, Mongolic and Turkic languages all evolved from the same matrix. Hence, the Altaic language family.

What does this have to do with your theory about "al"?

Lakota word «ate» [father] and Albanian word «atë» [father] are related.
