By San Francisco I mean, what San Fran used to be, and maybe still is in some circles, known for: laid back, "Liberal," boho, hippie, creative, artsy, etc. The pre-gentrified San Fran!

What ten cities around the world do you think have that same laid back atmosphere?
In Europe?
In South America?
Anywhere elsewhere in the world?

Please share your travel or work/live experiences.

Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Oakland, Melbourne....about as close as you can...particularly since PDX, SEA and OAK, are basically where all the SF people went when they were priced out of SF...

I can't think of anywhere in South America...but if I were to say a place, probably would have to be somewhere in Brazil. Nothing really comes to mind, but there is a lot of that hippy vibe element in parts of Brazil....

In Europe...ahmm...Lisbon, maybe? Barcelona, kind of? A bit too different...but kinda sorta, I guess.

But Portland, Seattle, Oakland...and when I visited Melbourne Australia, it reminded me of San Francisco meets Portland Oregon.

In South America there is Valparaiso, people say it's like another San Francisco, right down to the climate

I just came back from Lisbon and can see the similarities. It's hilly, is in a bay and has a couple of bridges to rival the golden gate.

In Europe everybody says it is Lisbon. Sadly it does not a have a Silicon Valley like San Francisco.

Climate is similar and definitely interesting and bohemian but it's a little bit run down. I loved Valpo when we were there.
