Were your parents citizens of Turkey when you were born?

This whole thing is weird.

Ok, so you are Turkish of Italian descent. But I suppose you could call yourself Japanese if you want to.

What is your relationship with Italy? In another post you stated that your parents don’t speak Italian either. So were your four grandparents born in Italy? Didn’t they speak to their children in Italian? Should you go further back to find Italian-born ancestors? All of them???

What does your passport say? Based on what you've said I'm guessing it says Turkey, so you're Turkish ... period. Is this a problem for you? Perhaps this is small consolation for you but - speaking as one - it ain't so great being an American nowadays. Just turn on CNN any night of the week ...

You have changed the terms of your question. To be very clear, this is OK:

This is not OK:

A liar? Not in the slightest, at least anywhere in the West.

What people do sort of assume is that you are loud mouthed, uneducated about anything outside your borders, love guns, are religious, and a bit of a redneck.

Spoken like the true, pale reflection of an American that you clearly are. Why are Canadians so angry (really just a rhetorical question, so don't bother answering)? The answer is pretty obvious to all of us "ignorant" gun-toters (not) south of the border.

It's not anger in the slightest. I very much like Americans and visiting the US and always feel welcomed and I find Americans very polite and welcoming.

This thread however is not really about facts and more to do with perceptions and, unfortunately, most people do have these perceptions of Americans and that perception has grown exponentially under Trump. It's no different than Americans having the idea that all French are rude, Germans uptight, Canadians passive-aggressive, Italians disorganized, and Colombians drug dealers. Is this fair? Of course not but that doesn't change people's perceptions.

Before attacking me as being another insulting Canadian, why don't you go ask New Yorkers or Californians what they think of Texas and you would get a whole litany of stereotypes punctuated with a very condescending voice and holier-than-thou attitude..
