It’s the inclusion of Hispanic/Latino that distorts the actual breakdown. If you include white latinos with the other 57%, you get around 70% white in total.

but you can't because very few Latinos are actually 'white only'. Only about 4% of the 19% are. And it's not 70%. It is 61%. The 70% is in combination with another race. So mixed race, which is where a lot of Hispanics fall under.

White Alone: 57%
White Alone including Hispanic/Latino Americans: 61%
White in combination with Whites+White Hispanics+People who are mixed with being white): 70%

*Keep in mind the multiracial/mixed-race population increased from 9 million to 33.8 million. A lot of mixed-race folk will check off the White in combination with box inflating that 70% number.

Most Latinos who come to the US are mixed race.

Latino's are simply considered 'white' in the rest of the world.

The whole concept of race and people being pure race and mixed race is simply archaic.

We are not in the 18th century!!!

NO ONE IS PURE ANYTHING!!

Ironically the massive drop in the number of whites in the US is owed to the fact that DNA testing surprised many prior white Americans with DNA results showing them that they had a lot of spice mixed in, not as purely white as they thought.

In fact, the idea of people being white is stupid!! Whiteness is a Colonial American invention created to distinguish free men from slaves!

In the 18th century any one non-slave was in fact considered white, then the American WASPS took over the term and coined it to mean Anglo origin, eventually it expanded to mean any light skin person.

Race does not exist biologically. It is nothing but American social categories.

But the OP has a point. The US officially has more Latin Americans than Black Americans and half the US population growth is Latino.

The Asian population grew substantially too.

Plus many Americans are multiracial.

Where do you get this idea that the USA has more Latin Americans than black Americans?

According to the US census 76% of what is considered LatinX in the USA are from the US, they just call themselves like that.

89% of people in the US were born in the US!
11% are immigrants and only 39% of those immigrants are Latin Americans.

No, DNA results are not the cause of the drop in the number of whites reflected by the census. People self-report their race for the census, and relatively few people have done DNA testing...and it's not likely they'd change what they reported their race to be even if the results had surprised them.

That's what the census reports.

Regardless of how you want to define it, American public policy will be based on what the census reports.

Most of what Americans call Latin Americans are not really Latin Americans but Americans with Mexican roots.

Your definitions are irrelevant to American public policy.

American public policy will be formed according to what they self-reported to the census according to the categories the census provided.
