In UK and France, most castles were converted into palaces and refurbished. In some cases, like Carcasonne in France, they refurbished a medieval city into Walt Disney's worst dream. The French should have shot the architect responsabible for such a crime, I think his name was Leduc or something similar.
In Spain is where you find real medieval castles, some are palaces but respecting the original construction.

Well there's a caste in north east England called Lindisfarne Castle which is located on an island and is accessible by foot at low tide but during high tide is only accessible by boat.
