I don't drive all that much, so, the increase wouldn't hurt me financially.
Might want to rethink that one a bit.
Every consumer good that you purchase got to the factory and then to the store using petroleum-powered transportation. That food on your table was planted and harvested by mechanical means.
You think high petroleum prices don't get passed on to the consumer?

I'm just wondering when we'll have a decent selection of diesel passenger cars here in the US. Maybe something like a Fiat Punto or the diesel version of the Yaris. Nothing fancy, just a plain, affordable, +50mpg diesel car. The only near term choices that I'm aware of are the VW TDI's and the "new" diesel Hondas.
As far as mass transit goes, yeah, we could do more. I also wouldn't mind dusting off my old bicycle, but sharing the roads with the local drivers would almost guarantee me a trip to the local emergency room, sooner or later. It would help if more cities would create separate lanes or paths for bikes, electric scooters, mopeds, etc.
Hmmm....maybe I'll start brewing up my own ethanol. I am a Southerner after all. Moonshining should be second nature for me.
I never get mad about gas prices here in the US. I have friends many friends from Europe and fully understand the gas crisis over there. I try to do my part as often as possible. luckily I live in a populated area where I can ride my bike w/ using my car as much. We just need to get rid of those big cars that pollute the earth...
Americans take too much for granted and waste too much, as for the gas its at like $6.00 a gallon in the Bahamas as to 3 or 4 in the U.S, Also considering that the cost of living in the Bahamas is much more expensive than the U.S and the average income in the Bahamas is only $21,000 a year, barely enough money to get by
Right now, gas prices are €1.35 for 1 liter in Germany, that's ca. $7.00 for a gallon at today's €/$ exchange rate. You should be glad to still pay a relatively moderate price!
I wish i could walk places but the closest store is over 25 miles away. so i can't walk.
