What about Europe? I would imagine it varies from country to country, so which ones tend to be up there? Would a geek have a chance with a Scandinavian?

Not really. Ofcourse there are always "Geeks" that got it good. But right now in scandinavia if you're fit, got a winning smile and is decently intelligent. You will have them flocking.
Now a "Nerd" who is fit, would also be flocked by women.
Uhm... That pretty much comes down to "Take care of your body!"
[Edited] : We're not talking about body builders, we're talking about fit as in decent shape. It really shouldn't be too much to ask for people to take care of their own bodies. As you get older you get less picky, but all in all they would pick the good looking teacher above the "Geeky" computer guy.
All other things being equal, what areas of the world have women who are really receptive to more intellectual, brainy, type guys?
None of them. In general women, socially inept, passive guys are not looked upon favorably. Now if you mean more intellectual types then I would say western Europe and probably northeastern Asia.
The States right now may be the most anti-intellectual of the developed nations right now.
I don't think that this preference has anything to do with any particular part of world. My good guess is that intellectual, educated woman would get better along with a geek guy than a shallow "bimbo", mostly because there would be not much of mutual interest except... you know... lol
