Florida,
I am bias on the subject as my Grandmother will be turning 90 at the end of this month. She is very healthy at present, and will hopefully be with us for some time.
Anyway, my children have been lucky to have her, her wisdom, and her experiences to learn from in a way that I, as their mother, could not otherwise convey to them myself. Her journals have become a source of pride for her and amazement to her family, especially given what a woman of her generation is "expected" to have been able to accomplish.
At some point, we may find ourselves converting a portion of her journals to a less wieldy medium but, never underestimate the value of the experience of actually being able to turn the pages and see the handwriting in its originality for readers in the future.
