"To tell you the truth..." (Because you usually lie?)
Often precedes a statement in which the speaker comes off not looking good in some way. As in "I'm telling you this even though ....... ".
Or they could just be fibbers!
Along those lines, does it bother anyone else to hear, "Do you want to go with?" I wanna scream, "WITH WHAT???" I think that's more of a Midwest thing though.
It must be a Midwest thing. I have never heard this one.

i don't know why though.
it just sounds silly.
but i'd say "she has been missing since friday" as opposed to your, "she was missing since friday."
Over the years, I believe I've developed quite a strong allergy to buzzwords and catchphrases. I think it started in the 70s, when President Ford started babbling the word rebate--you may remember that it was virtually impossible to escape that word for a while there!
Then came the Era of the Euphemism, when garbagemen became sanitation engineers.
Lately I feel as though I'm surrounded on all sides; it's getting harder and harder to pick out nice, straightforward communication from the blizzard of bad usage. I know there's supposed to be a silver lining in every cloud, but at the present time...
