Tell us what word sets your teeth on edge.

I'll start.

I despise the word "chuckle". There's nothing wrong with the word, technically. I see it in almost every book I read. And yet, it makes me want to grind my teeth.

Now fess up. What word do you hate.

I dont like the word "pal". For example, "I am going to go hang out with my pal, Eddie. I don't know why, it just bothers me. Can you just say friend instead?

"mate". Its tacked on the end (or beginning) of every freakin' sentence here, whether you are in fact their "mate" or not. Nails on blackboard.

I also hate the use of the word "sick" as slang for describing something good. For example, "this song is sick!" Not a good use for slang in that context.

"Participate". As a radio announcer, I dreaded saying it---four voiced vowels , each beginning and ending with voiceless consonants.

I've never heard of "sick" being used that way. Interesting...in a bad way, lol.

I frequently run across "no worries" in on-line workshops.

Like "sick" from RjR, I think "wicked" is so irritating
How about the non word of "axed" as in "asked"
Or "wanna be"
Or "joshin' with ya"
Or "killer" as in cool
Or "luv ya" may be at the top of my word/phrase peeves
