Lake Havasu was my mom's 3rd retirement residence after 2 in Loveland, and one near Sylvandale dude ranch and another at Carter Lake, then Cedar City, UT, then LV, NV, finally Lake Havasu, which she really liked and she remodeled and sold 3 homes there. Between age 75 and age 80, then she moved to NM.

She would take one of her liveaboard boats down to Parker Dam for the spring, while she lived in Havasu. The boating access on Havasu is great, except on weekends and holidays. (Spring break is a good time to not be on the lake.). Decorating for the Christmas boat parade was a big event for her. I really appreciated the local community centers. Good senior events and nice pools for lap swimming.

If I was to consider that region... It would be Laughlin, as I don't like to file state income tax. So WY, SD, WA, TX, and AK also work. (I don't plan to ever live east of Missouri river). Western 1/2 of SD is west of Missouri river.

Rapid City would still be a good choice for what you are often looking for: Western, not too hot, not too cold most of the year. VA Hospital in Sturgis just up the road. Casinos in Deadwood. A big lake/reservoir at Angostura: https://gfp.sd.gov/parks/detail/ango...creation-area/ Lots of cowboy/rodeo action in Rapid City and surrounding bedroom communities.

I spent a month-and-a-half working in Reno/Carson City area a few years ago in Oct/Nov. Very nice weather that time of year. I didn't go out to Washoe Lake, so I don't know how good the boating in there, or if it dries up every summer. It would be a tough hall up to Tahoe with your Durango, new engine or not, just for boating. But, there are a lot of nice, to big, to small and local, casinos in the area. I'd guess most of the towns around there have a rodeo or two each summer, maybe an indoor winter rodeo somewhere nearby too.

When we were in Sheridan, we talked to a couple who live in Rapid City. When I ask them how “cowboy and western” it was, they told me “today, definitely not. When the rodeo isn’t going on, it’s just another city.”

Now remember, this couple live there now.

We had stayed at a hotel on the edge of Rapid City and thought it might be cowboy-western, but they said “no way!”.

"when the rodeo isn't going on it's just another city" is true for just about everywhere. Rapid city is an excellent recommendation, of course not for BB2 but for anyone else who is looking for similar in a location. And in all due respect BB2, you kindve missed the rodeo season visiting Sheridan the end of September. If you would have visited in July, or when the rodeos we're actually happening, you may have gotten a very different impression.

Still, we aren’t talking about people wearing cowboy hats/western wear everyday-night of the year, but sometimes would be very nice to see. We don’t wear ours everyday-night of the year, but do like it sometimes or whenever we want to. Where we live right now, it’s very, very seldom someone is wearing western. And, when my wife wears her straw or felt, there are some that will give her a strange look. She loves wearing one or even a baseball cap and I love the way she looks in either.

So, anyway, the search online goes on! Perhaps South Las Vegas, perhaps not. But, no doubt in our minds that we will find somewhere. But, that “somewhere” we have to put certain “ok” and “not ok” to.

The way I've been reading your posts today it sounds like you and your wife have solidified the decision to keep the boat and more weight is now being placed on being near a suitable body of water....as well as a bit of western and rodeos thrown into the mix? Just so everyone is on the same page so appropriate recommendations of locations can be made.

And here's a guy who loves the way his wife looks, western outfits or not, and they're in their 70s. They're still looking forward to the future, and having fun. Gotta love that. Gives me hope! My folks were the same way.
