Most people don't want to live in a bend-in-the-road watering hole, which is all that Atomic City is and ever was. It is in the middle of a high desert type of region. It made a bit of sense long ago if you had work with one of the facilities in that part of at INL. But with modern cars, they mostly live in place like Idaho Falls and commute daily out to INL, and the INL work is at other facilities.

But gosh Atomic City has a gravel airfield! LOL

There is one store and one bar in Atomic City; the store no longer sells gasoline, due to new laws pertaining to its underground gas tanks. Most of the people who were raised in the town are now[when?] deceased, and many of the current[when?] residents are retired. There is an RV park on the south end of town with full hook-ups, and stock car races are held in the summer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_City,_Idaho

Sounds like a place where the population is going down and not up unlike most of the places in the USA.
