Beef should be expensive, the Buffalo Commons future for most of the High Plains will become a reality anyway.

Agreed. As long as the lion's share of that high consumer price gets to the small family ranchers and locally owned slaughterhouses.

Tyson, JBS, Cargill, and National Beef—purchase and process 85 percent of beef in the United States. JBS is the largest packing company in the world.

Harriet Hageman was on Glenn Beck's program today (link to that portion of the program below) discussing how the government regulations of the cattle industry, as well as government interference in water resources in neighboring states, are impacting the industry.

Bison are native to the area, there needs to be more incentives to grow bison populations and less incentives given for cattle populations.

fences required for bison a cost prohibitive, there not enough market for bison, Sison work facilities ,
( to bangs vaccinate, test , tag. are like 4 times an alley and chute for cattle
There a 55,000 acre bison ranch at Wright , https://durhambisonranch.com/, , then there https://terrybisonranch.com/ in Cheyenne. both fill NITCH markets.
When bison market bottomed out a few years ago, the USDA bought lot of Ted Turners bison meat, so we all helped subsidies him.

The bison steaks I've eaten were good, but I'll take a prime or even well-marbled choice Angus Sirloin or Porterhouse, please! It's a fond dream of mine that one day I can get out to Wyoming and buy direct from a family rancher like Jody or Wyotempest, and in the meantime, if it helps keep them going, I don't mind them getting whatever subsidies are on offer—finally, my tax dollars going to something and someone worthwhile!

The Buffalo Commons is a fine idea, and in general I support it, but behind it I hear the elitist greenies' privileging of animals over humans.

Commons means loss of Private property. I had buffalo quite a few times , Funny the hump was always buried under a lot of bacon, and as for the stakes they were usually cooked in bacon grease. If a fine protein but still a Nitch market with it own marketing problems.

That, too. The quandary seems to be either the land gets put under government control, or it'll be bought up by these international conglomerates. Neither is good.
