Just wondering how the rest of the state felt about all the jobs available, but no one will work! People are living on government assistance because they don't want to work for $8-15/hour!!!!

Is it a sign of the times? Or have we raised a bunch of self-righteous kids that refuse to work for less than $20/hour right out of high school?

I recently applied for a state position and had to go through my entire work history....and when I was a teen (and even into my adulthood) I worked for $3.00-$8.00/hour (and I'm only 35)....I was grateful to HAVE a job....but it seems like kids these days (and adults) expect $15.00/hour just for showing up for work, and don't really want to have to WORK for their money.

What do you all think?

Can't name names on here. You realize what kind of law suits that could entail? haha

If your moving here, are you after a particular job or are you just moving here with nothing in mind?

The economy around Seattle is so bad I would be willing to do anything for a price, but I am skilled in Accounting, IT and Management.

The economy isn't much better here either. But check out this website. Log in and you'll be able to see every listing for work in the state. You can select fields, salaries, towns, how ever you want to narrow it down. It will give you a complete description of every job.

The entire state is short on workers.

When Methane starts dropping taps in the earth, and they advertise for laborers starting at $30 an hour with a lot of overtime. It tends to clean out the available work force. Even from other towns.

right now, in Sheridan, you couldn't find a house for rent. Everything available is taken and there are lists to get into them. The motels are all booked with weekly renters.

The "worst" areas for housing & jobs seem to run hand in hand because are usually because of booms bringing in workers who need housing, but if you build much more housing then at the end of the boom in a few years they sit empty & the bottom drops out of the area's market. Never a good balance because of the nature of our type of work here. There are VERY few areas that you won't have to search hard to find a place to live that has decent paying jobs - takes some working, but it can be done. Just do your homework first before moving here. I had a job when I moved to Cody & ended up living in my truck in the back-end for 5 days, bathing in Sulfer Creek before dressing for work!!!!! And moved 4 times within the first 6 months before 2 years after the last of those moves found a house & have been in the same house ever since - total of 20 years. I worked 2 fulltime jobs (one was my own med transcription biz) for 18 years & now down to 1 FT job. I made good money at the hospital for the 13 years I worked there while doing my transcription but then had to give up some of the contracts - had to start backing out on that. You can only do that so long before you are totally worn to the bone. 70-75 hours a week to make ends meet was unbelievable. The only reason I am able to work 1 job now is because my house & truck are paid for & I decided a few years back I don't have to have a new truck every 2 years. LOL!!!! I have my '98 Dodge Ram, in GREAT condition & has been SO good to me. And my son is a diesel mechanic & can do a lot of the work that it needs for maintenance and the couple of actual mechanical failures it has incurred. Over 100,000 on it & have only had to put in a new clutch, steering box, & 2 new sets of tires. Not bad for an ol' gal. LOL!!!! Anyway, yes - Wyo is a trade-off like everything else in life. You trade the easy life for working dang hard for the privilege of living here.
