The tags aren't that much, but you will have to pay property tax on your cars. It won't be very much on those cars since they are older and will be even less if they have more than 100k. If you call the York County tax assesor's office, they can give you an estimate of what the tax will be. Mine was within $10.

It cost me $64 at DMV. New driver's license, plates for the car and new title.
This was after the property tax. You have to pay the tax first and bring the receipt to DMV. I paid $264 for a 2002 Jeep.

Good luck and welcome to SC!

Tax estimate for the two cars is $220.00
If I were to buy a car in SC does the dealer charge you tax? Or do you just pay the tax yearly as personal property? I don't get how they can charge you personal property tax?

It's property that you own and therefore taxable. I am not sure what the tax is in SC when buying a vehicle, but in NC you pay a 3% highway use tax when you buy a vehicle, but you do not pay the normal sales tax of about 8%for most localities.

Do you pay the tax on a lease car? You do not own the car it is more like renting.

Yes, you do, unless you have it in a the lease contract that the leasing company will pay the taxes. I don't ecommend leasing a car in Sc.

Sales tax on vehicles in SC is capped at $300 regardless of the cost of the car.

Property tax is yearly. Itdoes go down each year I'm told since the value of the car decreases.
