sixinthefamily, I saw your post about White Grove and the subdivision looks great, but tell me more about the commute from Doby Bridge. I'm thinking about relocating to Fort Mill (from Nevada) and the Doby Bridge area seemed like it was "way out there". What if work will take my wife and I into Charlotte every day? Will we go nuts having to commute through Fort Mill just to get to 77? I appreciate your input.

I go from Doby's Bridge Rd and Williams Rd in Fort Mill to SW Charlotte and it takes 25 mins w/o traffic. If you end up closer to 521 off of Doby's Bridge Rd and ened up working uptown, that can be a commute.

Once the Southern Bypass is in place it will be about a 6 minute commute with light traffic from Doby Bridge/Whites Road to 77S exit 83. Expect heavier traffic as years progress.

By end of year 2009 is not that far out, however, I have friends in the right of way who at this point in time have not been bought out.

A 4 million dollar handout to complete the road 2 years sooner than originally scheduled is on the table and will bump at least part of the road to 4 lane (the pictures of the proposed Target and such I saw showed a 4 lane road with center divider), otherwise, there are about 1400 lots that will have to sit empty with building permits that have been denied due to lack of this road. This translates to only 3k extra per house to enable these homes to be on the market 2 years earlier. I'm thinking money talks and the road will be bumped up from the original scheduled date.

Doug,

I see other have posted travel times for you. I am a SAHM so I never travel to the city during peak times so I never think the comute is bad. My hubby works in Lancaster so he is always traveling the opposite direction as everyone else so that is great. They also just opened the light rail which may aide you depending where in the city you would work.

good luck.

sixinthefamily - I live in Ft. Mill and work in Lancaster. What route does your hubby use to come to work?

I am so lame and am not sure of road names so don't hold me to it. He takes Doby's bridge to down by Indian Land high school and makes a right ( maybe 521 ). It takes about 25 minutes to the center of town.

Yep, that would be 521. names for roads chnage a lot in the Carolinas though.

Thank you SixITF and groove - I'm tempted to try it that way but am daunted by what I might hit in terms of traffic on 160 to get to 521. I go on 77/21/5/521 to get to Lancaster. Six - your husband and I may be working in the same place!
