The coves are no-wake zones, so you should not get a lot of boat engine noise there. If you are on the main channel, you will get more traffic, and faster, but it will likely be fairly distant from the shore. My guess is this will not be an issue assuming decent insulation and modern windows and doors on the house, but I am not on the lake front.
Are there late nights of people out on the lake and early morning fishing boats?
Thanks!,
Dawn
Hey there Dawn
I don't have lakefront property within Tega Cay (Tega Cay is a peninsula so we are surrounded by the lake on 3 sides). We are on the lake quite a bit...once the weather warms up a bit....I also have friends that have lakefront property in Tega Cay and Fort Mill.
Lake Wylie is not near the size of Lake Norman. Lake Wylie does have early morning fishing boats...heck this is where they held the BassMaster tournament awhile back! .
Overall I think Lake Wylie is considered more serene than Lake Norman is. There are alot of coves off the lake...in fact we are still exploring them all...4 years later (depth finders are a must). There are no-wake zones within these coves...but of course you do have the occasional #@$!&* that thnks that this means for everybody else but him. Sometimes during the summer months (weekends) it can get a little crowded....but I'll tell you if you have the opportunity to get to the lake during the week...there have been times...that I feel like we are the only ones out there (but sshhh..don't tell anyone ).
We didn't get much time last year on the lake due to the drought...we are praying for more rain like we are having today.
Of course since the 4 years we have lived here...we have seen an increase of usage at the lake (I can only wonder how glorious it use to be)...and the prices have really shot up in the 3, 4 years for lakefront property.
Hope that helps some....and I rec'd your DM and will respond shortly!

Reason: I NEED SPELL CHECK! :)
We live on the lake and were able to get the boat off the lift yesterday(water was too low since 9/07) - HOORAY! I guess some people played hookey as there were more boats out then I expected.
Our house is in a quiet cove in River Hills. As mentioned by other posters, it is in a no wake zone and not conducive to boats anchoring in the cove. We do get fisherman and there is no problem at all. They use electric (soundless) motors and speak in low tones (probably don't want to scare the fish). All-in-all, it is a very peaceful and serene environment.
We have friends in other areas of the lake (Big and Little Allison Creek) that are always complaining about large boats that create wakes that would rival ocean waves. Their other complaint is about ski boats that have large speakers on their ski bars that blast music for the entire lake to enjoy.
Some things take some getting used to living on the lake. We have a part-time resident on our dock. We have nicknamed him "Sidney". He (I think it's a he, never got close enough to be sure) is a 4 1/2 foot long water snake. On first encounter he was quite intimidating. But now, we just keep a long pole by the dock and prod him into the water and send him on his merry way. Who ever thought a big city-girl would have the courage to adopt to country living.
Ok, I have to ask because snakes are my fear factor limit! Are there any dangerous snakes IN the water? Can they hurt you?
We live on 2.5 acres right now and we do get several snakes, including copperheads, but the dogs tend to help chase them (except one neighbor's dog did get bit by one and almost died.)

We have lived here for eight years and have yet to run into a live dangerous reptile. We spend a lot of time on the lake and also on the shoreline. I am sure they exist but according to what I have read they will try to avoid you.
I swim in the lake all summer and have yet to even see Sidney when I'm in the water.

A little late reading your post,,,,, I really don't think the lake is very noisy except maybe on Summer Sat/Sun when the lake is full of boats. There are alot of fishing tournaments and when the national ones come its really cool to see the professionals fishing from your back door.
We have seen a few snakes on the rocks but we have lived here over 10 years and maybe seen two snakes.
I have a good friend that lives on the main channel and my inlaws live on a cove. The main channel can get very busy and pretty noisy on weekends and holidays in the summer. My friends have never had any issues at night and the daytime traffic has never bothered them, comes with the territory, ya know. The coves are generally very quiet. Occasionally you get some idiot that can't follow rules and flies down the coves.
