Hi everyone, I just wanted to give you an update on the Elementary School situation in Tega Cay/Ft. Mill. We received a letter from the school district yesterday saying that all kids who are at Riverview because of the freeze at Gold Hill will attend Gold Hill next year. I have a friend whose children are zoned for Orchard Park and she received the same letter about attending Orchard Park.

Anyone who enrolls from here on out will be attending Riverview. Hope that makes sense!

Well, that is great news!

Thanks for sharing PA Family!

I also rec'd an email (Fort Mill Schools / Core Issues / April 2008) where it covers such things as a public hearing on May 19th to discuss new attendance areas and a new budget.

The house we are renting is in Springfield Elementary's enrollment area but they are going to be full so we will probably have our daughter sent to Fort Mill Elementary since it's looking like that will be our eventual local school.

Unfortunately PA Family, not every one rec'd a letter. We were looking forward to getting one but no such luck. We came to Baxter for the conveniences- schools, shopping, easy access to 77. We knew ahead of time their was a freeze but did not think it would go into three years. Then when the new schools are built next year my son will be attending his last year year at Riverveiw. I am quite upset about the whole thing, Baxter advertises Orchard Park as their school. But come to find out it is also Sutton Place, Waterstone and Knightsbridge. It's very unfortunate that my son is the one paying the price- has only one friend in our subdivion. He plays sports to make friends but all those children go to Orchard or Gold Hill.

PA Family consider yourself one of the lucky ones. I will be attending that meeting on May 19.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I didn't realize at the time that I posted that not everyone who are at Riverview due to the freeze at Orchard Park got the letter unlike the kids who are zoned for Gold Hill (where everyone got a letter). I am surprised that you have been here for that long and didn't get the letter. All of the families I know who have kids at Riverview who got the Orchard Park letter have been here less then 3 years. Have you double checked with the school district? I can understand (and relate to) your situation, living in Tega Cay my children are the only ones in my neighborhood who attend Riverview. Good luck.

We moved here 8/07. I did call the school district to find out the criteria used to make the decision. They advised me that if you had a child starting kindergarten at Orchard and a sibling that was attending Riverview, then your child will be moved. Well, needless to say my son is an only child. So even if we were here when the freeze started 12/06, he still wouldn't of made it.

I have a hard time understanding why Knightsbridge is even in Orchard. Children will attend Springfield Middle for Jr. high, the same with Waterstone.

Like I said earlier, it's my son that suffers on a social aspect. I think if I knew this ahead of time we would have possibly looked elsewhere to live.

I agree. We moved here in 6/06 and have a child that will start school in 2 years... Hopefully he will go to the neighborhood school, we are less that .8 of a mile from the school... Keeping my fingers crossed....I'm sorry to hear that this is occuring... good luck.
