Description: From old-time fur traders to modern-day ranching, this festival commemorates the romance, lore, and legend of the American cowboy and the settling of the American West. Over 4 days in mid-March, the festival presents Western music and movies, cowboy poetry, and costume contests. Western heroes and peddlers dressed in period costumes stroll the festival grounds. One of the highlights of the show is the Chuck Wagon Cook Off, in which chuck wagons from across the country come to compete for prizes. Visitors can sample their old-fashioned cooking. Each year the festival honors individuals who have helped preserve the Western lifestyle. Past honorees have included Gene Autry, Ben Johnson, and Denver Pyle. Admission is $14 for adults with discounts for children, students, and seniors. A 4-day pass costs $45.
