Description: Situated in the far southeast and extending east from Wilmot Road and south from Irvington Road, the Vail School District covers a sparsely populated area but one that has seen a huge increase in housing. Its eastern boundary is the Rincon Mountains, and to the south it reaches the Santa Rita Mountains. It encompasses the Rita Ranch area as well as Corona de Tucson.Founded in 1903, the Vail School District was once a ranching community with a 1-room schoolhouse. Only 20 minutes southeast of downtown Tucson, the Vail School District is one of the fastest-growing districts in Arizona. Considered one of the best districts in the county, with relatively small class sizes and state-of-the-art technology, the district has 7 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 2 charter, 2 comprehensive, and 1 alternative high school, with more than 10,000 students in grades K through 12. The district projects enrollment to continue to grow rapidly.
