Description: Tucson’s Amtrak station is downtown, in the refurbished 1941 historic train depot at the northwest corner of 4th and Toole Avenues. The station is open Tues, Thurs and Sat from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., and Sun, Wed and Fri from 7:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., primarily corresponding to trains’ arrivals and departures. Amtrak’s Sunset Limited passes through eastbound to Orlando, Florida, and westbound to Los Angeles several days a week. The Texas Eagle portion of the line will get you to San Antonio or Chicago. Strangely, Amtrak does not service Phoenix directly but instead stops in Maricopa, about 30 minutes outside Phoenix. Talk continues about light-rail services and commuter service to Phoenix, which would be based at the station.Parking is available at the station and nearby on the street, but none of it is secured or advisable for the long term. The safest bet for long-term parking is a nearby city garage. Ground transportation from the train station is convenient because it’s located downtown and only a stone’s throw from Sun Tran’s Ronstadt Transit Center at Pennington Street and 6th Avenue. Beyond the city bus, you’re likely to find taxicabs either at the train station or the bus transit center. For a rental car, you’ll need to call one for a pickup; none are within walking distance of the train station or in the immediate downtown area.
