Description: Just south of Colorado Springs off CO 115 lies one of the crown jewels of the Colorado State Park system—Cheyenne Mountain State Park. This 1,680-acre park, one of the newest in the state (since 2006), lies beneath the eastern face of Cheyenne Mountain and borders the plains of Colorado for a startling transition from plains to peaks. Cheyenne Mountain offers superior facilities and recreational opportunities, including a 20-mile trail system good for both hiking and mountain biking. Along with great trails, the park offers top-notch facilities for overnight guests, including 61 spectacular campsites, most with a paved parking area, grill ring/fire pit, 10-foot-by-10-foot tent pad, picnic table, and panoramic views of Colorado Springs and Cheyenne Mountain. Most campsites (51 total) are full-service, with water, electrical, and sewer hookups for RV campers. Tent campers may use these RV sites, but there are also 10 unique walk-in sites among the scrub oak, reserved for tents only. A nearby camper-services building is where you get permits and park information, and find flush toilets, coin-operated showers, and a coin-operated laundry room. There’s also an activity room and a camp store that sells everything from books and souvenirs to snacks and camping necessities. Playgrounds, additional restrooms, a beautiful amphitheater, and easy trail access are also available from the campgrounds. Reservations are strongly recommended (use the 800-number above). Group camping also is available through the local office.
