Description: Right across the street from The Broadmoor hotel, tucked into its new 8,500-square-foot digs inside Broadmoor Hall, is the El Pomar Carriage Museum. This longtime attraction gets most of its visits from hotel guests, but it’s open to the public daily and it’s free. The museum houses an impressive array of historic carriages, cars, and American memorabilia belonging to Broadmoor founders Spencer and Julie Penrose, who started the museum in 1941. Walk in and take a tour that includes 3 cars from the original Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb race (from the 1920s), Mrs. Penrose’s classic 1928 Cadillac limousine, and a 1906 Renault. There also are 2 carriages that belonged to former presidents (William Henry Harrison and Chester A. Arthur) and an assortment of harnesses, saddles, and other riding tack. Parking around the hall can be tight, but it is available nearby in the parking garage and the museum will validate your ticket.
