Description: Rose Medical Center, also a division of HealthONE, is well-known to many Metro Denverites as the place where their children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were born. That’s not surprising considering its emphasis on women’s health services, parent education classes, infertility, and high-risk pregnancies. The Rose Breast Center performs more mammograms than any other facility in the Denver area. And the Rose Children’s Center is strong on inpatient, ambulatory, and emergency services for infants, children, and adolescents. All this is not to say that Rose is just for women and children. Opened in 1949 and named after Denver World War II hero General Maurice Rose, the Medical Center provided the first comprehensive, primary care–oriented health program designed especially for men. The special Suites at Rose continue to provide a distinctive level of care, including private chefs. Among the general list of hospital services provided by Rose’s 1,100 affiliated physicians is advanced oncology research and Colorado’s first coronary-care unit. With 420 licensed beds, it was also the first adult acute-care metro medical center to formally affiliate with the nearby University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Rose is also a teaching hospital. Other special features include a surgical treatment of emphysema program and sports medicine orthopedists, who provide care for professional and weekend athletes alike. In 1994 Rose created what it calls an orthopedic center of excellence, the Rose Institute for Joint Replacement, which is recognized for its model of full-service care. At the new Elaine and Melvin Wolf Ambulatory Surgery Building, Rose offers cosmetic and laser surgery services and a minimally invasive breast biopsy technology that is taught to physicians from around the world.
